A chain letter informing people of a postal scam has been found to be a hoax.
The letter says a scam is being operated by a company called Parcel Delivery Service who leave a card informing the home owner of a missed delivery, asking them to call a premium rate number.
Paigaam contacted Royal Mail who told us PDS was an old scam which was shut down in 2005. The letter itself is a hoax that has been circulated around Christmas time since 2012.
Premium rate numbers can cost up to £2.60 a minute and can end up lasting much longer than a caller might think, especially if you are sat in a queue. This worry has led people to rapidly circulate the chain-email.
If you are uncertain regarding a phone number an easy way to find out is by going to www.phonepayplus.org.uk
Phone Pay Plus is a website operated in partnership with Ofcom and by typing in the phone number you can find out if it is a premium rate number and if it is under investigation too.
