Batley become the latest town to use its Twitter users to launch a promotional onslaught on the social media platform. In the very first #BatleyHour over 120 tweets were posted in 60 minutes and got the Tweeters of Batley buzzing with excitement.
Twitter’s #Hour is an idea that has been used to promote businesses, organisations, events which operate from the town or city as well as promoting the town itself. Twitter users up and down the country soon began to read of the many wonderful happenings in the town.
Credit for the launch of #BatleyHour has been given to @Kaya_Dee who proposed the idea and @NKirkleesV who immediately responded with support. The two local ladies initiated the idea late on Wednesday 19 March and with quick support from fellow tweeters, the first tweets began flight at 7:30pm the following evening.
Soon after hitting the timeline, #BatleyHour flew into a frenzy, and even local people learned of events, organisations and businesses close to home they had never heard of before.
But it doesn’t stop there. Such was the buzz that those who missed it continued to re-tweet the many wonderful posts in the days after. And the following week the promotional event hit the timelines harder with more local people joining in.
The history books will recall Thursday 20 March 2014 as the day Twitter was bombarded by Batley, and with #BatleyHour taking place every Thursday from 7:30pm, and with the growing support each week, it wont be long before #BatleyHour will be a worldwide trend.
