Madressah Talimuddin ‘A’ (Warwick Road) became the new IMWS affiliated Madressas under 11’s 6-a-side champions beating Madressah Islamiah ‘A’ (Mount) in an enthralling final played before a large crowd.
The annual tournament held at the Al-Hikmah Centre in December, saw eight teams from local Madressas compete in a well mannered tournament which included a full Zuhr salaah break.
Warwick ‘A’ finished winners of their group and played runners up of Group 1, Hope Street, in the first semi-final. In a close game a single goal was enough to see the team from Madressah Talimuddin, progress to the final.
The second semi-final saw Group 1 winners Mount ‘A’ take on a talented Taylor Street team. Taylor had impressed with their scoring abilities throughout the tournament but were out played by the team from Madressa Islamia, Mount Pleasant. Two goals from Mount ‘A’ saw them set up a repeat of the last final.
An early goal by Warwick gave them the lead in what became a tight game with both teams cancelling each other out. Defending champions Mount levelled the score line through a penalty before Warwick hit the winner and held on to become the 2013 IMWS Affiliated Madressas Champions.
The tournament was organised by the IMWS Youth Sub-committee. Chair of the Youth Sub-committee, Yunus Patel, told Paigaam, “As always, this was a fantastically well supported tournament played in a wonderfully friendly but competitive spirit, the boys and their ustaads were a credit to their Madressah’s. Everyone who took part was awarded a medal to remember the occasion.”
