IMWS

DSCN1316Since January IMWS have been busy recruiting for and delivering several courses for adults in the local community. These have included ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Cake Decorating, Introduction to ICT and Mehndi. All the courses have now come to an end and the students celebrated their achievements with a certificate ceremony.

The introduction to ICT course has been hailed a huge success with 20 learners completing the course in the IT Suite at the Centre. As this course was aimed at beginners, the course was delivered in a supported and structured manner to ensure learners could make progress with their skills.

The ESOL students have been on an incredible journey with some learners joining the course with little or no English skills. By the end of the summer term some of the learners had made enough progress to take an ESOL Entry Level 1 speaking and listening exam with City and Guilds, passing with flying colours. Many were amazed at how much they had achieved. And the reason for their success?  Hard work and excellent attendance.

What our learner’s said:

“It’s hard to come to every lesson because I am a carer and I have other commitments. But I have realised that I have to make time for myself to catch up on all the educational opportunities I have missed out on.”

“I look forward to coming to every lesson. Not only are they fun and interactive but I learn so many new things on the computer. I want to continue learning. I would definitely recommend the IT course.”

“I didn’t think I would be joining an IT course at the age of 53. But I am glad I did!  I feel like I have been supported every step of my journey and I have made lots of new friends..”

Many of the learners have now signed up to continue their learning in September and hopefully gain enough confidence and skills to go onto accredited courses or work.

To continue with this success, IMWS are intending to start new courses for adults in September. Courses include Talk English (less formal ESOL type course), Introduction to ICT, Cake decorating, Sewing and Well Being through beauty therapy.
